How long does it take to get through the checkpoints flight from Frankfurt to the U.S.?

I booked a cruise vacation package in Austria and Germany this fall. The cruise company has returned to the U.S. fly from Nuremberg to Nuremberg-Frankfurt-Denver on Lufthansa (LH). The Frankfurt Connection is only 70 minutes, and I worry that we might miss our connections if we have to go through multiple checks at customs and passport control and security to transfer an inmate for an international flight in Frankfurt. Can anyone tell me what the checkpoints / lines will have to go through in Frankfurt, and if 70 minutes seems reasonable?

I have flown the same route, except for Denver destination. After passing through Nuremberg, Frankfurt is easy. You just go through the terminal for next flight without going through the doors of international arrivals. The big problem is when you go through U.S. Customs. My God – I could not believe how crazy they are here in the States when I returned from Germany – who lived there for 11 years and flew back to Newark and Atlanta a couple of times a year.
